Wyards Print & Artworks has strong
links with the Industrial past of Faversham.
During its history it has hosted a laundry, become a hostel for
women working at
the nearby explosives factory and school rooms for Serbian refugees
in the First
World War. In 1926 Mr John Wyard bought the building to house
his expanding
printing and book binding business. It has continued to house
printing in some
form ever since.In 1997 it
was bought by the present owner and has undergone a programme of
restoration.
Bridge House was reinstated as a domestic
dwelling, followed by the
conversion of the main factory building to house the printmaking
workshop. The
last phase, the new ground floor gallery, entrance and disabled
facilities, has
received the generous support of Southern and South East Arts
through the
Capital and protect strands of the Regional Arts Lottery Programme.
